CREDIT ADVANCEMENT COURSEWORK for Students Currently in Grades 8 through 11

Description:

Credit advancement courses are available to students currently enrolled in grades eight through eleven and provide students the opportunity to earn credit for courses that are usually taken later in a student’s course sequence.  Completion of credit advancement coursework allows students to, among other things, make space in their schedules for other courses during the regular academic year and earn credits needed because of credit shortages resulting from family relocation.

Courses Available:
Credit advancement courses available for initial registration include Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Computer Applications, Health and Physical Education 9, Health and Physical Education 10, Health and Physical Education 11, and Career and Work Readiness (for students currently in grades 10 and 11 only).

Course Dates:

Credit Advancement Geometry and Pre-Calculus will begin on Monday, May 19, 2025, and conclude on Friday, August 1, 2025

Credit Advancement Computer Applications, Health/Physical Education, and Career and Work Readiness will begin on Monday, June 9, 2025, and conclude on Friday, August 1, 2025

Please note that ALL credit advancement coursework must be completed by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Friday, August 1, 2025.

Registration and Payment Dates:

Registration for credit advancement courses MUST be completed by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.  All decisions as to whether or not individual credit advancement courses will actually “run” will be based on registration numbers as of noon on Thursday, May 15, 2025.  The more students who register for an individual course by Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the more likely that course will be offered.

Please note that school district administrators reserve the right to cancel an individual credit advancement course if fewer than eight students register for the course.  Decisions regarding course cancellation will be made the afternoon of Thursday, May 15, 2025, and students -- as well as their parents/guardians -- will be notified (via e-mail message) of course cancellation before 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Friday, May 16, 2025.  Should a course be canceled, fee payments will be refunded in a timely manner.

Payment for credit advancement coursework should be submitted by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Wednesday, June 4, 2025Students whose coursework has not been paid for by the June 4, 2025 deadline may be removed from credit advancement courses.

Payment of Fees:

Payment may be submitted via personal check, money order, or MySchoolBucks.  Personal checks and money orders should be made payable to “Indiana Area School District.”  Cash payments will not be accepted.

A check or money order should be placed in a sealed envelope, labeled (“Summer School” with the student’s name) and then delivered to (A) the Main Office at Indiana Area Senior High School, or (B) the District Administrative Office at 501 East Pike.

Attendance Requirement:

For students who have reliable internet service at home, there is not a “physical” attendance requirement for credit advancement courses.  Students are permitted to complete all coursework online, and most students effectively do so.  Students are, however, encouraged to take advantage of opportunities to receive assistance (from subject area teachers) in Indiana Area Senior High School’s IDEAL Lab. The IDEAL Lab’s hours of operation during Summer School 2025 will be forwarded electronically to all students and parents/guardians once the IDEAL Lab coverage schedule for Summer School 2025 has been finalized.

Course Withdrawal:

If a student chooses to “drop” his/her credit advancement course(s) by 8:00 a.m. by Monday, June 2, 2025 for Geometry or Pre-Calculus OR Monday, June 16, 2025 for semester courses, a refund will be given for the cost of the course(s) -- minus a $25.00 registration fee; please note that refunds will not be issued for courses “dropped” after the aforementioned deadline.

If a student “drops” his/her credit advancement course(s) after the aforementioned deadline, the student will receive his/her “relative” grade for the credit advancement course, and that grade will be (A) used to calculate the student’s grade point average (GPA) and (B) recorded on the student’s transcript.  These grades cannot be removed from a student’s transcript -- even if a student retakes a course and successfully completes it.

Course Grades:

Indiana Area School District grade guidelines will be used for all Summer School 2025 credit advancement courses.

For senior high credit advancement courses, students will receive a grade (0, 1, 2, 3, or 4) earned during each quarter of a course and on the course final exam (if applicable).  The student’s course grades will be recorded in the student’s school record and will be used to calculate the student’s grade point average (GPA).
