IJHS student places in statewide investment competition

Chase Higbee, a 7th grader at Indiana Area Junior High School, was a winner in the fall semester Statewide Investment Challenge, sponsored by the Brighter Financial Futures/Pennsylvania Council on Financial Literacy (PennCFL) with financial support from S&T Bank.

PennCFL exists to prepare the next generation with financial management skills. Their competitions are held in the classroom, both county-wide and state-wide.  Higbee finished in 2nd place for Indiana County and 4th in the Statewide competition in the Middle School Division.

“The Investment Challenge is a great way to expose the students to the stock market,” said Chase’s teacher, Janice Brocious.

Higbee agrees. “I really liked researching and picking my own stocks. It was a lot of fun.”

Congratulations to Chase Higbee and all the students who participated, for the real prize is the financial literacy skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
