School Safety Update - Please read

October 28, 2021

Dear Families,

On Thursday evening, it is my understanding that numerous middle schools, if not all middle schools, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania received notification from the Safe2Say program of a vague threat made against “jhs.”  Nowhere in the post does it specifically identify the Indiana Area Junior High School as the target.

Regardless of the ambiguity of the threat, I have contacted the Borough Police to err on the side of caution, and they will provide additional support during the day tomorrow.  I am extremely grateful for Chief Schawl’s leadership and support to make sure we work together to keep our students, staff, and schools safe.  IASD’s Safety Director responded quickly to work with the Jr. High Administration on the matter as well.  Again, no evidence was found that this threat was/is directed to the Indiana Area Junior High.

I apologize for the late hour of this email, but I started to receive multiple reports about the situation and thought it was best to make you aware of the threat and our planned response.  Sorry for the intrusion.  Please contact the Junior High Administration and/or our Safety Director, Mike Travis if you have any questions.  As always, all of our buildings will be alert and aware.

Respectfully,

Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich

Superintendent of Schools
