COVID-19 Update - High School

November 9,  2020

Dear Families:

I am writing to inform you of another COVID-19 case in our schools.  On or about 10:00 am on Monday, November 9, 2020, the District was advised that a student at Indiana Senior High had tested positive for COVID-19.  The student has not been in school since Tuesday, November 3rd.

Contact tracing is currently underway, and we are assisting the Department of Health (DOH) in their effort to make a final determination as to any students or staff who may need to be quarantined. The families of the students who have been exposed have been contacted by the School Health Services. As you know, the DOH has the authority and final determination to quarantine students.

This is currently the second active case at the Senior High School of which we are aware. At this time, I am recommending we stay open based on the following rationale:

  1. The previous case was a student who did not have high exposure to the other students in the school.
  2. This new case is unrelated to the previous case and does not appear that this case will result in many exposures or quarantines.

I realize that these are difficult times with the increased pressures the pandemic causes, and there are no guaranteed right or wrong answers at times due to the varying beliefs, attitudes, and opinions on the matter.  On behalf of the entire District, please know we are doing all we can to remain open to provide educational programming to our students with safety at the forefront of our decision-making.

Respectfully,

Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich

IASD Superintendent
