Eisenhower September 2nd Family Update

September  2, 2020

Dear Eisenhower Families:

We are excited to have you return to school for the 2020-2021 school year and are grateful that you have been patient with us as we navigate these uncharted waters.  I just wanted to further explain some of our new procedures and provide you with an additional resource.   I apologize for the volume of letters, emails etc., but we want to make sure that we communicate with you.

Our Health and Safety Plan

Please review the IASD Health and Safety Plan which is posted on our IASD website under the reopening section. Reopening Schools 2020-21 – Reopening of SchoolsAs previously communicated we need everyone to wear masks and social distance while at school. If you are unable to provide your child with a mask, please contact your child’s school and face-coverings will be provided. Each school has built-in mask breaks, and you can view these site-specific procedures by visiting our Health and Safety Plan via our District website.(link above).

I have added a video to the district webpage that explains some of the basic procedures for Eisenhower Elementary school.  The link can be found on the IASD website or by following this link:  https://youtu.be/rEFW30177fg

A few reminders for our students and families:

  •  Water Bottles

We have installed water bottle filling stations throughout the school.  We are asking that students bring in a water bottle (plastic or metal).  Please make sure that the student’s name is clearly visible on the water bottle.  Water bottles should be brought into school on the first day of the week and they will be sent home on the last day of the week to be cleaned and returned the next week.

  • Dropping Off Items during the school day

We recognize that sometimes students forget things like their lunch or an instrument.  If you need to drop off something for your child during the school day we are using the following procedures:

  • Please call the main office at (724) 463-8566 at least 15 minutes before arriving at the school.
  • Come to the main entrance and place the item on the table by the door.
  • Please fill out a sticky note with your child’s name and homeroom number on it and stick it on the item.
  • Please buzz the office and let the secretary know you dropped off an item.
  • Then, please leave so the secretary can safely come out and get the item and get it to the student.

  • Birthdays Celebrations

We will be recognizing all students in the building during the month of their birthday.  This will occur on the last Friday of each month.  If you would like to send something in to celebrate your child’s birthday we ask that you do it on that day.  As a reminder, healthy treats are recommended and all items must be individually wrapped from the store and no communal items.  If you provide items that are not store-bought and individually wrapped they will not be distributed to students.  This is to help protect all students from germ transmission etc. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding of this change.

  • Attendance, Excuses etc.

Attendance is taken daily for all students.  Due to the new start time of 8:45 a.m. students will be marked tardy if they arrive after 8:50 a.m. Students who arrive late should be brought to the main entrance door by the person dropping them off. Please buzz the office and someone will come to the door to do a temperature check and admit the child.  If the child has a temperature of 100 degrees or above you will be asked to take them home and monitor their fever.

After a student is absent from school a written excuse must be submitted to the school within three school days of the absence.

We know there may be questions as you prepare your child for learning this school year and we are here to help.  Our phone number is 724-463-8566.  I will be sending out more information regarding school procedures etc. on Friday, September 4, 2020.  Thank you for being a part of our learning community no matter if you chose the Traditional Model, IDEAL, or Synchronous Learning!  Looking forward to working with you and your child this school year.

Sincerely,

Erin Eisenman

Eisenhower Principal
