Safety Update - Eisenhower Elementary

October 3, 2018

Dear IASD Parent/Guardian,

Please be aware that on October 3, 2018, at approximately 8:40 a.m., we received information about a suspicious person near Eisenhower Elementary School.  Although there was not any immediate danger, we treated the matter very seriously.

We contacted the Indiana Borough Police to assist us with the investigation into the matter. They responded promptly and professionally. We implemented established safety and security procedures including a modified lockdown at Eisenhower Elementary as an additional precautionary measure.  At no time were staff and students threatened nor were any threats made directly to the school. The individual was quickly located and taken into custody by the excellent work of the Indiana Borough Police.

We are pleased to inform you that our recent efforts to promote safety and security within our schools have helped greatly.  I applaud the teamwork of the parent who contacted the school, the great reaction by our incredible teachers as well as the prompt and decisive reaction by the Indiana Borough Police.   As a result, we have resumed normal operating procedures and we thank you for your attention and apologize for any inconvenience to you. The safety of your children is our highest priority.

Sincerely,

Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich

IASD Superintendent
