In recognition of School Bus Safety month, employees of Student Transportation of America (STA) along with the Indiana Area School District Transportation Department sponsored a coloring contest and poster design contest in October.
Pre-K through 3rd grade students at East Pike and Ben Franklin participated in the coloring contest. Each grade had four winners for a total of 32 winners from both schools, with each receiving a certificate, school bus safety materials, and a free pizza from Fox’s Pizza Den!
STA challenged the 4th and 5th graders at Eisenhower Elementary to create an anti-bullying poster. This was a group project completed by homerooms, and posters were submitted for judging. It was decided that Jenna Gizzi’s 4th grade class and Carolyn Detweiler’s 5th grade class were the winners of the contest. Both classes received a classroom certificate and a pizza party!
Both STA and IASD were very pleased with the outcome of the contests and the number of participants and support from the faculty and staff. We hope that these contests help create awareness of school bus safety and anti-bullying. Both subjects are very important, not only on the school bus but also in the classroom.
Thank you all for your help, support, and willingness during this activity. Special thanks to Fox’s Pizza Den for their generosity and support for our schools.
