Earlier this week, the Hiking/Walking Club at Indiana Area Senior High School participated
in a Ruck Hike at White’s Woods. The theme for this event was “Pack the Sack,” during
which students filled their rucksacks with food donations to support those in need within
their community.
The canned foods they carried in their Rucksacks symbolized the burdens many individuals carry throughout various points in their lives. For students, this activity provided a meaningful opportunity to raise awareness and foster empathy.
Students traversed a six-mile trail through White’s Woods. Upon completing the hike,
they delivered the collected food to ICCAP to support the “Power Pack” program, which
supplies food to elementary school students in need. Additional food donations were
designated for community members through the Emergency Food program.
The final stop of the event was stocking the Little Food Pantry in Indiana.
Students are creating a flyer of upcoming food distribution events, to raise awareness for their classmates and members of the community who may be facing food insecurity.
Said club advisor Dr. Nathaniel Wharton: “We extend our gratitude to all students who contributed, the staff and volunteers at ICCAP, and the Pennsylvania Association of Rural and Small Schools (PARSS) for their support.”
