COVID-19 Update - High School

April 12, 2021

Dear Families:

The District was notified on April 8, 2021, that a Senior High student has tested positive for COVID-19.  The student was in school during his/her infectious period.  As a result, there are 13 additional staff and/or students needing to be quarantined as a result of this case.

This positive case WILL be counted towards the rolling 14-day count; however, due to the fact that we are remote on Fridays at the secondary level, we have 0 active cases (secondary) as of today due to the closure (remote Fridays) that was embedded as part of our reopening strategy.  This decision (remote Fridays) is providing us with additional flexibility to remain open as we projected cases and/or quarantines would rise.

As a result, we will continue to stay open under the current model.   See below for the current case numbers at each building as of this morning.

  • Senior High - 0 active cases
  • Junior High - 0 active cases
  • Eisenhower - 0 active cases
  • Horace Mann - 1 active case
  • Ben Franklin - 0 active cases
  • East Pike - 0 active cases

As a reminder, the 14-day clock starts at the onset of symptoms, not when the District is informed of the test results.

As always, the number of confirmed cases can change at any time.  We understand the terrible inconvenience a closure causes our families; however, we have a responsibility to make you aware of the possibility.  My goal is not to cause panic, rather it is to help make you aware of the current situation in case the District needs to make a change rather quickly.

Respectfully,

Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich

IASD Superintendent
