On March 23, 2026, IHS students had an immersive experience at Gettysburg National Military Park
For many of the students, it was the first time stepping onto a historic battlefield. In addition to learning about the Civil War, the trip encouraged students to reflect on the deeper lessons history provides, such as the costs of division, the significance of leadership, and the importance of unity in creating a better future
Walking the same grounds where history took place allowed them to move beyond simply memorizing facts and to gain insight that connects the lessons of the past to the decisions we face today
Experiences like this not only teach history but also promote the development of thoughtful, empathetic individuals who recognize the relevance of history to our past, present, and future.
