The Indiana Area School District has two Pre-Kindergarten classrooms, located at Ben Franklin and East Pike Elementary Schools with twenty students in each class. The goal of the program is to support students (age 4) in preparation of the basic academic skills for a successful transition into kindergarten. The IASD Pre-K program focuses on the development of skills such as mathematical thinking, literacy, scientific exploration, social, and emotional development. The IASD Pre-K program is a full day program that follows the IASD school calendar. Transportation is provided. Enrollment begins May through August.Enrollment Policy:
The school will follow the current school enrollment procedures and guidelines stated in the Pre K Counts grant. The families will meet and complete an income guideline set by the PreK Counts grant. In addition the families will complete the Indiana Area School District’s enrollment application. Including: Pre K Counts application, income verification, parent handbook, photo and web releases, getting to know your child parent survey, dental examination report, emergency forms, student registration, statement of residencies, Home and School Language Survey, student health history, entry medical/dental examination form, caring homes campaign, physical examination, and the current year calendar. All medical forms are kept in the nurse’s office and family verification is kept in the administration building at the business manager’s office. All forms are to be completed, approved, and returned to the school’s office before the student attends class on or before the end of July.
Students will be selected on the criteria of “greatest need”. Greatest need is defined by the following: income and ability. Enrollment is not based on race, gender, and ethnicity. Each classroom will include a diverse group of students but will not to exceed 20% of special needs students at the start of each school year.
The following screening process applied for students of the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school years and may be revised for future years. Families begin the process by completing PreK application. Once a student is approved through the PreK application the family then completes the enrollment packet. The business manager verifies the income.
