It was an informal honor, but an honor nonetheless. On Friday, September 11, Indiana Area Senior High School seniors Brennan McMasters, Brock McClure, and Ian Smeltz visited the Flight 93 National Memorial after school. During their visit, Stephen Clark, the superintendent of the National Parks of Western Pennsylvania, engaged with the students, offering to answer their questions and thanking them for taking the initiative to visit on their own, noting that it was rare for young people to visit without parents or when not on a school-sponsored trip.

Commending the students for their interest in national history, the superintendent shook their hands and presented each with a commemorative coin.

IASD also takes great pride in these seniors for demonstrating an appreciation for history and commends its Social Studies Department for inspiring students to meaningfully engage with history beyond the classroom.
