The successful candidate will be an experienced public school administrator with excellent interpersonal skills and a successful track record in educational leadership, financial management, and labor relations. PA Letter of Eligibility and earned doctorate required. Position available immediately. Superintendent of Schools

The ideal candidate for the position of Superintendent of the Indiana Area School District will:

be an expert educational leader with a successful public education track record in both elementary and secondary education. She/he will possess the skills necessary to collaborate with and advise the school board in a manner that effectively facilitates the implementation of committee processes, establishes relevant policies and manages the affairs of the district. In addition, the new superintendent will possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to unify various stakeholder groups across the region in order to maintain and enhance high quality educational programs. She/he will be a visionary leader who understands the Indiana region and positions the school district to be an important player in workforce development and economic improvement in the area. The successful candidate will be a problem-solver who will lead by example and will have the ability to earn the trust and respect of all school district stakeholders. He/she will have the flexibility to apply the leadership style necessary to ensure attainment of the goals necessary for Indiana Area to keep pace with changing trends in education and maintain the highest possible standards for excellence in education.

have a strong background and successful track record in labor relations. The candidate will be knowledgeable in labor law (particularly as it applies to public education in Pennsylvania) and will be able to demonstrate a history of positive relationships with various labor groups. Emphasis will be placed on successful contract negotiations, resolution of disputes, and evidence of cooperation between labor and management to meet the goals of the school district.

...have background experience that includes successful teaching experience, success as a middle management school administrator, and central office experience.

...have knowledge of and successful experience in public school budget and finance. He/she will have a comprehensive knowledge of Pennsylvania laws that govern public school finance and will have a track record that demonstrates an ability to be effective and cost efficient in budgeting and in the allocation of limited resources. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience with or knowledge of school district building, construction and renovation issues.

...be skillful in the development and implementation of effective educational practices that comply with the requirements of NCLB and with Pennsylvania’s Chapter 4 Curriculum Requirements and will lead to improvement of student academic achievement. The candidate will be able to maintain a system that values the importance of a rich, deep curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
