2011-2012 Classes

Current Classes

Mechanical Drawing I + II- Students develop the ability to use drafting equipment and standard drafting practices. This course includes sketching and lettering, use and care of drafting equipment, geometry of technical drawing, multi-view drawing and projection, dimensioning, auxiliary views, sectional views and drafting media. Students will be introduced to Auto Cad and develop the ability to create, modify, file, and plot drawings.

Metal Technology I- Precision Machining and metal fabrication in a cold form. Students in this class learn the basics of the Engine lathe, use of micrometers, calipers, and scales. The class project is a machined two piece tack hammer that must be machined to a tolerance of .002" Other projects include various sheet metal drawings which translates into an actual sheet metal part.

Metal Technology II- Welding technology fundamentals. Students in this class learn various types of welding processes and their applications.  Information to be covered- Welding safety, use of cutting torches, Gas welding, Brazing, and soldering. Shielded metal arc welding, MIG, and TIG. Students will also learn how items are fordged or cast. Students will ram up a mold and cast aluminum, they will also fordge tool steel to make their own tools.

Metal Technology III- Advanced materials engineering and processing, custom fabrication. Students are required to manufacture a charcoal grill with stand. This is similar to a Hibachi grill.  Students are also encouraged to design, build, and test individual projects using a systems model.

Engineering Drawing- This advanced course is recommended for any student interested in any engineering field as a profession. Included in this course are practices in cams and gears, welding and machine drawings, electricity and electronics drawing, design technical illustrations, solid modeling and animation. "Inventor" from AutoDesk design academy will be used extensively.

Independent Study (CAD and Inventor)- This course is designed for those students who have successfully mastered the concepts in Architectural drafting I or Engineering Drawing. Students will be expected to independently develop and create projects under the supervision of an instructor utilizing the most current versions of  Auto CAD, Architectural Desktop, and Inventor. THIS IS AN INDEPENDENT STUDY COURSE! Therefore; the students must not only have mastered the technical concepts but also be SELF MOTIVATED!   *Students must have successfully completed both mechanical drawing I and II (Courses 606 and 608) as well as Architectural drafting I (Course 610), or Engineering drawing (course 612)  in order to schedule this class.  This course fulfills .50 credit toward the computer technology graduation requirement.

Architectural Drafting I- This course offers students residential blueprint reading and design. Students will learn how to operate the Architectural Drafting software and terminology associated with building and designing a home. In addition to the computer software students will be required to make technical sketches and learn proper architectural dimensioning.

Architectural Drafting II- This course offers students the ability to create a full working sheet set of drawings used in the building of a house. Students will design and produce their own house design and will learn the process from start to finish as well as create various door and window schedules, plumbing schedule, electrical plan, and exterior / interior elevations.  The most current version of Architectural desktop will be used.
