Course Expectations and Requirements

(Back to Home Page)

  1. All students are expected to attend class.
  2. PARTICIPATION!  Students are encouraged to voice their opinions regarding the literature studied in class.
  3. Students need to bring a notebook, journal, textbook, pen and/or pencil to each class unless otherwise noted.
  4. Homework is assigned not as a punishment, but as a necessity to achieve objectives.  Students should do all homework, assigned projects and papers in blue or black ink.  NO PENCIL PLEASE.  INCOMPLETE RESPONSES ARE NOT ACCEPTED.  Homework may be typed.
  5. All formal essays, papers and projects are expected to be typed.
  6. LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.** DEADLINES AND GUIDELINES MUST BE OBSERVED; OTHERWISE, THERE IS A PENALTY

   **POLICY FOR MAKE-UP WORK**

  1.   If a student is absent on the day that an assignment is due, the student must turn it in on the day that the student returns to class, i.e. the first class back.

  2. If a student is absent on the day that an assignment is given, the student will have one class day to complete and  return the assignment.

  3. If a student misses an assessment of any kind, he/she must make it up according to the number of days he/she was absent from school.  For example, one day absent = one day to make up the test or turn in the homework; two days absent = two days to make up the test or turn in homework, etc.

  4. If a student is absent from class due to a field trip, the student is responsible for all work missed. If there is a test scheduled OR homework due the day following the field trip, the student IS EXPECTED TO TAKE THE TEST OR TURN IN THE HOMEWORK.

GRADING

Grades are calculated based upon a combination of homework, projects, quizzes, tests, papers, and participation.  The grading scale in my classes adheres to the district's grade policy: 93-100% = A
                    85-92%  = B
                    77-84%  = C
                    69-76%  = D
          68% and below  = F

After all of the above and above all else, I hope for students to bring a positive attitude and a sense of humor to class--I know that I try to.

I also want my students to understand that
LEARNING IS HARD WORK, SO WORK HARD TO LEARN
