Currently, a deadly outbreak of pneumonia is occurring throughout the world. This is resulting from a new virus first occurring in Hong Kong. The origin of the epidemic is believed to be a 64-year-old Chinese doctor who stayed on the ninth floor of the Metropole hotel in Hong Kong's Kowloon district between February 15 and 27. He infected at least 7 other people who stayed on the ninth floor with him. These people then brought the pathogens to other places throughout the world including the United States. The disease has so far killed 12 people. Scientists in Hong Kong have isolated the virus and are hoping to be able to contain it.
