Course Description:
Computerized Keyboarding will help students learn to touch-type with greater accuracy and speed. Students will learn the alphabetic keys, the figures, and the symbols though drill and practice with MicroType® Multimedia software. Students will use Microsoft Word® prepare reports, letters and other documents with ease. An opportunity to learn the numeric keypad will also be available as an enrichment activity.
Class Textbook and Materials:
Textbook: Century 21 Keyboarding and Information Processing, Robinson, et. al., South-Western Educational Publishing, 2000. These books will remain in the classroom.
Folders: You will need one pocket folder for your class materials and printouts.
Standard of Evaluation/Course Outline:
The grade is determined on the basis of daily production work completed, tests, and speed and accuracy achieved on timed writings given throughout the 18 weeks. Students will be graded on written tests and typed projects including memos, reports, letters, envelopes, and centering. Students will daily demonstrate the touch method of keyboarding.
The First Nine Weeks will be devoted to learning the keyboard, developing good typing techniques, and developing speed and accuracy. Evaluation will include:
Students should meet a minimum speed of 20 gwam with 6 or fewer errors.
The Second Nine Weeks will continue to develop speed and accuracy through drill and production work. Students will learn to type memos, personal and business letters and envelopes, reports, and cover pages. Evaluation will include:
Students should meet a minimum speed of 25 gwam with 5 or fewer errors.
The marking system for this class is based on the IASD grading scale.

Computerized Keyboarding is a very useful skill. Students are expected to apply themselves daily to develop good work habits. These good habits will contribute to learning to type with ease.
